Internship experience
January 22 2009, 1:52pm
I had ended my internship like a month ago.

I certainly wouldn't think of the chance to join big company like ALSTOM for internship. I remember that I wrote in my previous blog about how I miserably failed to answer the technical questions during the interview with National Instruments. I wasn't exposed to those in the college, but heck, I am a quick learner. Why didn't they give me a chance? LOL.
Anyway, I humbly think that my supervisor hired me for internship because he only needed someone who can talk, and well, good with the software. Or maybe it was my 3.91 CGPA before the final semester results were released? (and I might drop to second class upper with the last semester result, so you could imagine how significantly bad I did).
Back to the matter, I was hired to take the lead together in establishing the department (I was in Construction & Commissioning) competency matrix system. It was more like a work of HR personnel, but it seems that he needed someone with a bit of engineering background.
I wrote something for ALSTOM's graduates/interns newsletter about this project I was handling:

I was required to do presentation in front of the General Manager (thankfully, it went well), talk to each sub-function head and line manager and self-familiarization with the system with a bit of knowledge in Excel macro programming. Before I left the company, the project was still unfinished due to string of problems that caused delay! I'm curious how it goes now.
My last day was on 23rd December, and coincidentally they were having the department's year end party at Pavilion Red Box Plus. Damn syiok! I was singing from 8p.m. till 1a.m - with short breaks in between. The General Manager approached me and asked for my upcoming plan.
In the middle of the karaoke session, the General Manager made some announcement, and then he handed me the certificate. He said something -"We're glad to have you here with us. Promise .... you will come back to us." I hope I didn't hear wrongly because he repeated it twice, and after a second pause, I replied - "I promise."
I actually like a job that allows me to travel around the world. I've been hoping for one. Unfortunately, at the moment, I can't have a job that requires me to travel.
but all in all, I appreciate the days in ALSTOM. Thanks for the experience.
Ah.. I shall start sending resume now.
